Another thing they don't have in Taiwan is tampons, in fact my girlfriend thought about importing them or something. lol.

It's interesting how much stuff she brings back every time she goes back, it's as if Taiwan is a 3rd world country or something. Common items are Q-tips (those in Taiwan don't work as well), vitamins, dietary supplements, baby soup, tampons, and a lot more that I can't remember right now.

When I was growing up in Taiwan, we had a lot of public bathrooms which are just "squat toilets", like the ones mentioned in Wikipedia here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squat_toilet

Fortunately, we had walls that were much lower, otherwise you'd see a lot more than just feet. Also, a squatting toilet is still a toilet, it still flushed and all.

The hardest part is trying to balance yourself while going to the bathroom. It was okay when I was a little kid, but I can't imagine doing that now with my bad knees & bad back (all basketball related injuries).

However, all of those things sure beats the hell out of a hole hammered out on the floor, while everyone watches you squat over it... You've got me beat by a mile.

In China at a restaurant, there were women handing two squares of toilet paper out to each person in need of the facilities. Upon entering the bathroom, all there was was hole hammered out of the tile on the floor in an otherwise empty room. Aim and slippage were higest on the priority list. Women stood in line and watched until it was their turn. I would have given my dignity for a floating wall at that time. Well written. Thanks!

@Stahn
I think most people have learned that if they stuck around and asked, "So what happened?" They just empower the IT people to talk down to them. So it's easier to just avoid the whole thing together.

There will always be people that simply don't care, and just wants their computer fixed (and that's how I deal with my car, I just trust the dealership or some mechanic my friend recommended will be good enough to fix the problems).

However, you also have the people who really want to learn more about what caused the problem so it wouldn't happen again. At these times, you would hope that the IT people would be nice enough to "teach" what they know rather than just make snarky comments. Unfortunately that's far & few in between.

@ayn
You're just lucky! :)

I think there are growing numbers of people who has turned to Mac because they understand the platform, and made a "technical" choice to go with Mac rather than Windows.

There is also a community of users that have been using Mac for years because it "simply works", and never had to deal with any technical issue (or just drop them off at the Genius Bar).

I'm really somewhere in between. Since I'm not an engineer, but a big computer geek.

LOL @ Lynx, I used to use that coz it was quicker than starting X and netscape... that was back in 1996 or so though...

To them, being a “Mac user” pretty much equivocate to being completely computer illiterate.

that's weird coz almost all Mac users I know are programmers, I guess Mac users generally are either highly technical or comp illiterates.

Have you heard anything more about an updated release of del.icio.us 2.0?

I upgraded to the full version of FF3 a few days ago and lost my del.icio.us plugin with Firefox not finding an update. I've been using Shareaholic instead, but it doesn't have nearly the amount of cool features that the new del.icio.us plugin appears to have.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of reviews Tabula Rasa gets in the end. As usual, the "preview" coverage of any games are highly positive, and you really only see negativity in the press after the final game ships.

I actually got into the beta for Hellgate London as well, shortly before the official release. That game turned out to be slightly disappointing as well, although not as much as Tabula Rasa. I think that's because I was not expecting nearly as much from a Diablo clone as Richard Gariott tauting the second coming of MMOs.

I came across this site completely by accident, but I just wanted to add an "Amen!" to your post.

I played exactly 3 hours and 55 minutes of Tabula Rasa on launch day before I gave up. Your assessment is spot on - I was completely lost when it came to figuring out what to allocate where, what made a difference, and when to use which item or ability. To make things even worse, the whole system of resistances and specific weapon/ammunition types and subtypes was overly complicated. It's way too much for a beginning player to handle.

The designers for WoW did a brilliant job at easing people into the game and presenting the player with just enough information to keep them moving and make them feel productive. I suspect Tabula Rasa player numbers will peek quickly and fall off just as fast.

Probably wouldn't have helped... Subversion would've made the upgrade go a little easier than uploading files via FTP, but wouldn't have corrected the issue with Simple Tagging and the inadequate built-in tagging features.

I did find a few more addon that helps "enriching" the tagging experience with WP 2.3 though.

I thought that the iPod Touch was either going to be a touchscreen iPod with the size somewhere between the Nano or the iPhone with flash memory storage.

Or it would've been the same size as the iPhone with a hard drive based storage.

Being a stripped down iPhone really doesn't give me much in the sense of value proposition. If the iPhone price didn't drop by $200, I'm not sure I would have any of the new iPod line at all right now.

Of course there is a need! Think about all those poor folks with really bad constipation! That must be a really significant percentage of the population. And they can also think about doing a campaign on eating less fiber (Veggies are for hippies, not techies!) so that more people can become constipated.

Then they will definitely need this product.
